Based in Richmond, PFG markets and distributes more than 68,000 national and private label food and food-related products to over 41,000 restaurants and institutional customers across the country. Known for its high level of service and customer satisfaction, PFG's operational philosophy centers around performance, which is critical in the highly competitive food distribution industry.

Broadline food distribution is a highly competitive business where high quality and consistent customer service are paramount. Performance Food Group (PFG) continually reviews its operations to find ways to enhance service levels. Despite already strong customer satisfaction, PFG saw an opportunity to further improve by implementing voice software. The goal was to increase overall productivity and accuracy, improve customer service levels, and manage quality control costs.

PFG implemented Voxware VMS software to enhance customer service and operational efficiency. The software's Enterprise Voice Manager allows PFG to manage voice operations across multiple distribution centers from a centralized location. This setup reduces the IT burden on individual distribution centers, allowing them to focus on rapid and error-free product dispatch. The system operates via PFG’s Wide Area Network (WAN), enabling real-time interaction and centralized monitoring of distribution operations. The open, SOA-based architecture of Voxware VMS provides flexibility and ease of updates, ensuring that all facilities are synchronized without manual intervention. PFG also uses Honeywell HX1 mobile units, which are ruggedized with ToughTalk™ technology, to support the voice logistics applications.

Improving Production Line Efficiency with Ethernet Micro RTU Controller
Moxa was asked to provide a connectivity solution for one of the world's leading cosmetics companies. This multinational corporation, with retail presence in 130 countries, 23 global braches, and over 66,000 employees, sought to improve the efficiency of their production process by migrating from manual monitoring to an automatic productivity monitoring system. The production line was being monitored by ABB Real-TPI, a factory information system that offers data collection and analysis to improve plant efficiency. Due to software limitations, the customer needed an OPC server and a corresponding I/O solution to collect data from additional sensor devices for the Real-TPI system. The goal is to enable the factory information system to more thoroughly collect data from every corner of the production line. This will improve its ability to measure Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and translate into increased production efficiencies.
