V3 Transportation, launched in 2013 by trucking industry veterans Robert Poulos and John Sliter, is an expedited carrier specializing in same-day, emergency, direct delivery across seven industry verticals. With a fleet of more than 85 trucks, V3 Transportation has rapidly grown by leveraging Omnitracs' SaaS-based Transportation Management System (TMS) and Alliance Network. The company has been able to enter the market aggressively and grow cost-effectively by partnering with other carriers and streamlining its back-office operations. V3 Transportation is known for its high level of customer service and ability to handle nearly every request, competing effectively with larger, brand-name expedited fleets.

28 percent of truck trailers run empty, which represents a tremendous overcapacity and negatively impacts the bottom line. V3 Transportation needed a solution to scale to customer demand in real time and monetize spare capacity. They sought a technology that would allow them to leverage spare capacity, expand operations without significant investment, and work collaboratively with other carriers. The challenge was to find a reliable, scalable, and affordable technology that could streamline back-office operations and provide accurate asset tracking, seamless driver communication, and exceptional customer service.

V3 Transportation adopted Omnitracs Sylectus TMS, a cloud-based system that drives all of its operations, including brokerage, dispatch, and back-office functions. The system provides management with the flexibility to work from anywhere and automates workflows to ensure accurate asset tracking and seamless driver communication. By joining the Omnitracs Sylectus network, V3 Transportation has been able to collaborate with over 200 partner carriers, assess capacity within its network, and complete shipments that would have been impossible otherwise. The technology enables V3 Transportation to act like a larger carrier, handle its own customer activity, and fulfill partner-carrier needs. The system also provides high visibility for cargo tracking, ensuring customer satisfaction and driver efficiency.

The company has a long track record of innovative technology solutions. For example, 3M helps its customers optimize parking operations by automating fee collection and other processes. To improve support for this rapidly expanding segment, 3M needed to automate its own data collection and reporting. Jason Fox, Mobile Application Architect at 3M, upped the ante by volunteering to deliver the new app in one weekend. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
