Old Dominion Truck Leasing faced several challenges with their aging desktop infrastructure, primarily consisting of Windows XP machines that were 8 to 10 years old. The company needed to virtualize this outdated infrastructure to support a mobile salesforce and efficiently manage virtual user profiles. Additionally, they required a solution to speed up imaging and recovery processes while ensuring data security. The existing setup was time and labor-intensive, with user profiles and data being managed locally, making the process of reimaging computers and migrating users cumbersome.

Old Dominion Truck Leasing chose AppSense to address their IT challenges. They licensed the entire AppSense DesktopNow suite, initially focusing on Environment Manager to meet their VDI requirements. For users needing cloud and offline data access, they deployed AppSense DataNow, which allowed them to redirect user profile data locally to laptops while keeping it in sync with server copies used for VDI sessions. This solution provided flexible and secure data access, enabling central management of user profiles and data. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
