The bank was facing compliance violations due to its inability to prove the separation of its development and production environments. This issue put the bank's business, credibility, and reputation at risk. The potential penalties for these violations included heavy fines and the cessation of its ability to trade on the Nikkei exchange. The bank had previously failed an audit after executing trades worth millions of dollars and was under pressure to deliver a solution by a specific deadline. The risk of repeated audit failure was a significant concern for the bank, and it was seeking a solution that would not require reconfiguring a major portion of its network or involve a heavy burden of infrastructure upgrades and re-IPing.

Network-based solutions meant reconfiguring a major portion of the network and involved a heavy burden of infrastructure upgrades and re-IPing. The significant fiscal and operational expenses of this approach were untenable – as was the service outage to the business.

The bank’s infrastructure team saw the need for a host-based solution leveraging native application firewalls that follow the workload regardless of where it runs. Smooth Transition to Energy Savings
The building was equipped with four end-of-life Trane water cooled chillers, located in the basement. Johnson Controls installed four York water cooled centrifugal chillers with unit mounted variable speed drives and a total installed cooling capacity of 6,8 MW. Each chiller has a capacity of 1,6 MW (variable to 1.9MW depending upon condenser water temperatures). Johnson Controls needed to design the equipment in such way that it would fit the dimensional constraints of the existing plant area and plant access route but also the specific performance requirements of the client. Morgan Stanley required the chiller plant to match the building load profile, turn down to match the low load requirement when needed and provide an improvement in the Energy Efficiency Ratio across the entire operating range. Other requirements were a reduction in the chiller noise level to improve the working environment in the plant room and a wide operating envelope coupled with intelligent controls to allow possible variation in both flow rate and temperature. The latter was needed to leverage increased capacity from a reduced number of machines during the different installation phases and allow future enhancement to a variable primary flow system.

Derek Madison, Leader of Business Financial Support at MasterCard, oversees the validation of transactions and cash between two systems, whether they’re MasterCard owned or not.
