The Challenge
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) was grappling with an outdated, in-house developed maintenance management system that was conceived in the late 1980s. While it was a pioneering system at its inception, mirroring the advanced features of the 1989 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo, it had become a bottleneck for the agency three decades later. The system was sluggish, had limited interfacing capabilities, and lacked robust reporting features. The agency was also burdened with numerous spreadsheets and manual paperwork required for job completion. The outdated system was not only holding back the agency's efficiency but also its ability to innovate and streamline its operations.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, IDOT replaced its legacy system with a fully integrated version of AgileAssets' maintenance and fleet management systems, namely Maintenance Manager™ and Fleet & Equipment Manager™. This new software forms the backbone of IDOT's Asset Management Program (AMP), a state-of-the-art system that manages roadway and fleet assets while supporting IDOT’s unique business processes. The system includes a financial operations feature for managing account balances and a new contracts and materials management feature for managing snow and ice removal. IDOT also requested a highly customized module from AgileAssets to manage its complex labor and labor union contracts and pay rate calculations. This labor-management component interfaces with IDOT’s existing pavement and structures management systems, providing innovative ways to streamline operations management for these assets.
