The company's local computing capabilities lacked the flexibility to accommodate the changing requirements for simulations and modeling. The on-premises computing capacity was fully occupied by a single simulation, causing significant impediments to productivity. The team was also losing a significant amount of time benchmarking to find the appropriate HPC instance for each simulation.

Zeleros turned to Amazon Web Services (AWS) for cloud-based high performance computing (HPC) to enhance and support their process. The company used the Rescale HPC automation platform, which is built for hybrid and cloud HPC, and geared specifically for companies in the R&D phase. This platform helped Zeleros optimize AWS services and significantly transformed the capabilities of the Zeleros team. Rescale provided application lifecycle management that streamlined software configuration and licensing updates. The platform also unlocked new simulations that had been impossible to execute. Rescale also provided Zeleros with pre-set command lines on a graphical user interface, reducing complexity for all users and enhancing team-wide efficiency.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
