The county is best known as home to Disney World and is among the nation’s top vacation destinations. It also tops the list of large counties that know how to apply technology to the business of government. The county's IT team has garnered accolades for their contributions to governmental efficiency, including a “Best of the Web” award from the Center for Digital Government and a high ranking on a Digital Counties survey, which evaluated large counties that have successfully applied technology to meet their citizens’ needs.

Orange County, Florida, faced the challenge of collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data from multiple sources to ensure efficiency in government processes and provide essential government information to the public. The county aimed to reduce the cost of providing government services. The county's IT environment had to manage a wide range of services, from managing the region’s 911 fire and rescue call system to implementing security systems at the Department of Corrections. The county's 911 service alone processes approximately 1.5 million calls each year. Government offices handle more than two billion e-mail messages and 33,000 public records requests each year. The county also had to manage information systems for public safety, criminal justice, and public works as well as for an immense convention center, a thriving life science research park, and one of the largest radio systems in the country.

The county’s analytic portal saves time for government workers, supplies critical information during hurricanes and other emergencies, and increases government efficiency every day of the year. WebFOCUS consolidates the data reports and enables people to visualize it through dynamic charts and graphs. The county created an intranet portal that lets county employees view relevant data through real-time dashboards. County employees issue queries and drill into interactive charts and graphs. WebFOCUS upholds organizational security by agency and role, with complete data integrity. The county also uses the OCFL 311 InfoApp to assist residents to report local non-emergency community issues conveniently and efficiently. The InfoApp transparently maps locations of important community issues so residents can be aware of events that may impact their neighborhood.

The Netherlands are well-known for their inland waterways, canals, sluices and of course port activities.
