NordOps is a Managed Service Provider (MSP) that provides premium, enterprise-class IT services to wholesale distributors of any size running Epicor’s Eclipse ERP software platform. Founded in 2016, it now serves over 200 customers across the US and Canada, growing rapidly year-over-year. With years of experience in IT architecture at Epicor, Oliver Aaltonen, one of the co-founders and owners of NordOps, identified an underserved market of wholesale distributors running Epicor’s Eclipse ERP software platform. Their access to enterprise-class, premium services IT like Infrastructure, Disaster Recovery and Backup were lacking. Aaltonen and his team created NordOps to step in and fill this void.

NordOps, a Managed Service Provider (MSP) for wholesale distributors running Epicor’s Eclipse ERP software platform, faced several challenges. They had a ready customer base with a clear need for enterprise-class IT services like Infrastructure, Disaster Recovery, and Backup. However, they lacked the resources, both in terms of time and money, to build their own solutions. Additionally, they lacked name recognition and expertise in the Disaster Recovery (DR) space. Many of their customers, despite being large in terms of revenue, had limited IT understanding and therefore limited resources for their IT budget. The rise of ransomware and cybercrime prompted many companies using the ERP software to seek solutions like real-time Disaster Recovery or more reliable backups.

The solution provided was flexible and scalable, with secure and fully accessible data. The technical support team was expert and patient, and there were no hidden fees or upcharges. This partnership has been in place since the launch of NordOps in 2016.

Securing the Connected Car Ecosystem
In-vehicle communications and entertainment system hosts high-value or sensitive applications. API libraries facilitate communication and sharing of vehicle data. These API libraries are vulnerable to reverse engineering and tampering attacks and may even result in loss of passenger safety. Attackers can inject malware that may be able to migrate to other in-car networks such as the controller-area-network (CAN) bus which links to the vehicle’s critical systems. Software provided for dealers to interface with cars through the OBD2 port is vulnerable to reverse engineering and tampering attacks. Hackers may be able to abuse these tools to inject malicious code into the ECUs and CAN bus. Attackers can lift the cryptographic keys used, and use that to build their own rogue apps/software. Their cloned version of the original app/software may have altered functionality, and may intend to gain access to other in-car networks.
