Elara Caring, one of the largest home care providers in the United States, faced significant challenges in ensuring data privacy and security while providing a seamless employee experience. The company serves over 60,000 patients across 16 states and must navigate a complex landscape of state and federal data privacy regulations, including HIPAA. The healthcare industry is also known for high turnover rates, and outdated technology can negatively impact employee satisfaction. When Eric Bowerman joined as the Chief Information Security Officer in mid-2021, he noticed that employees were struggling to differentiate between authentic emails and phishing attacks, which was a significant threat to patient data security. The existing Microsoft 365 email security was catching basic threats, but advanced threats were still reaching employee mailboxes, causing stress and potential data breaches.

To address these challenges, Elara Caring implemented Abnormal Integrated Cloud Email Security (ICES) to enhance their existing Microsoft 365 email security. Abnormal ICES was chosen for its ability to block advanced threats that were previously bypassing the secure email gateway. This new solution not only improved email security but also enhanced the overall employee experience by allowing them to manage access more efficiently. The implementation of Abnormal ICES reduced the stress associated with email security, enabling employees to focus more on patient care. The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
