Crete Carrier is known for its distinctive red trucks pulling red and white trailers, while Shaffer Trucking uses blue trucks with blue and white trailers. Crete Carrier Corporation, one of the largest privately-owned trucking companies in the U.S., faced the challenge of reinventing their entire operational process to be more flexible and efficient while increasing service levels. The company had a complex fleet management system where different divisions operated separately, making it difficult to optimize resources and meet customer demands effectively. The manual management of fleets required keeping them separate, which limited operational flexibility and efficiency. Crete Carrier needed a solution that would provide complete visibility across their national operating fleet, allowing them to increase efficiency, flexibility, and service levels consistently.

To address their challenges, Crete Carrier partnered with Manhattan Associates to implement the Manhattan Carrier suite, which includes solutions like Driver&Load, Drop&Swap, and Fuel&Route. The implementation of these solutions provided Crete Carrier with complete visibility across their entire fleet, allowing for more efficient and flexible operations. A significant development was the creation of the 'Hemispheres' platform within the Driver&Load solution. This platform provided a single-screen view of the entire fleet, accessible to planners, dispatchers, and customer service representatives. This joint development initiative removed operational silos and enabled precise planning and increased flexibility. The solutions allowed Crete Carrier to cross their various lines of business, adapting to real-time conditions and meeting customer demands more effectively.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
