CRC Health Group, the largest provider of specialized behavioral health care services in the U.S., faced the challenge of ensuring that its staff could access Microsoft Outlook Web Access reliably and efficiently. With 145 facilities and a large number of staff spread across the country, CRC needed a solution that could handle the load and provide consistent performance. The primary challenge was to ensure that the Outlook Web Access was always available and responsive, regardless of the location of the staff. Additionally, CRC required a solution that could support future needs such as Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) for site-to-site failover.

To address the challenge of ensuring reliable and efficient access to Microsoft Outlook Web Access, CRC Health Group deployed A10 Networks® A10 ADC server load balancers. The A10 ADC load balances HTTP, HTTPS, and POP3 traffic, ensuring that the Outlook Web Access is always available and responsive. Additionally, the A10 ADC off-loads SSL, reducing the number of servers required to support web transactions and increasing transaction speed. This deployment has resulted in faster web response times for CRC staff. Looking ahead, CRC plans to implement a Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) solution for site-to-site failover, leveraging the unique and efficient approach of the A10 ADC, which includes GSLB capabilities at no additional charge. Prior to this deployment, CRC had already implemented A10’s identity management appliance, which centralized critical password management functions and increased compliance scores, resulting in reduced help desk calls and increased user productivity.

However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
