Covidien UK, a leading provider of innovative healthcare products, faced the challenge of delivering daily operational business intelligence to its 300 field-based sales staff in a cost-effective manner. The company needed a solution that would allow its sales staff to interrogate data without the need for extensive training and support. The challenge was compounded by the fact that Covidien UK has over 2,000 customers and an annual turnover approaching £150 million, making the volume of data to be managed and analyzed substantial. Furthermore, the company's growth through acquisitions over the past ten years meant that new data sources needed to be integrated quickly and easily into core business reports.

Covidien UK implemented WebFOCUS to generate near real-time reporting from all data sources. The company used ReportCaster to automate the scheduling, generation, and distribution of reports. This solution provided a flexible, scalable BI solution that delivers operational intelligence to unlimited numbers of users, eliminating the need for high ongoing annual licensing costs. The ease of use of WebFOCUS allows salespeople with no technical knowledge to drill down from top-level data into customer and product level reports, accessing information that is less than 24 hours old. Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
