关于客户
Appvion, Inc. is a manufacturer based in Appleton, Wisconsin that creates product solutions through its development and use of coating formulations, coating applications, and microencapsulation technology. The company produces thermal, carbonless, and security, digital specialty, and coated specialty papers, and Encapsys® microencapsulated products. Appvion's products are used in a variety of applications, from point-of-sale receipts and coupons to multipart business forms such as invoices and purchase orders. The company's Encapsys division uses microencapsulation technology with partners in industries such as agriculture, building and construction, paper, textiles, personal and household care, and oil and gas. With annual sales of nearly $1 billion, Appvion's success depends on its effective use of enterprise data.
挑战
Appvion, a manufacturer of paper coating and chemical products, was facing issues with information access and quality. Different departments were using different tools and data, leading to inconsistencies and a lack of governance over data usage and sharing. Information was scattered across numerous applications, warehouses, marts, and spreadsheets. The company was in search of a single platform that could meet the needs of all its departments and users, support its data warehousing strategy, preserve data quality, and enable robust analytics.
解决方案
After evaluating more than ten solutions, Appvion chose business intelligence (BI), integration, and data integrity solutions from Information Builders. The combination of the WebFOCUS BI and analytics platform, and iWay Software integration and enterprise information management capabilities, allowed Appvion to leverage InfoApps™, which delivered many benefits to the company’s business users. These InfoApps ensured that users were working in a unified environment with consistent, high-quality data. They also dramatically reduced the amount of time needed to administer the various components of the environment. The first InfoApp™ was designed for Appvion’s Customer Manufacturing Services division, which is comprised of inventory professionals, planners and schedulers, and the customer service team. To satisfy these reporting requirements, Appvion created InfoApps with key performance indicators (KPIs) and pre-built reports to provide insight that streamlines day-to-day operations.

While the existing lines were operating satisfactorily using a PROVOX distributed control system with traditional analog I/O, AES wanted advanced technology on the new line for greater economy, efficiency, and reliability. AES officials were anxious to get this line into production to meet incoming orders, but two hurricanes slowed construction.

Field Device Asset Management For Chemical Company in China
Chinese chemical subsidiary of multinational corporation serves customers throughout the world. Sales offices and research and technology centers are strategically located to provide rapid response to customer requests. Just two workers were assigned to maintain thousands of intelligent instruments in three production units, so they could do little more than react to device issues as they appeared. This costly maintenance method inevitably led to unexpected downtime when a critical instrument failed. Plant management recognized the need to change from reactive to predictive maintenance for all assets, including instruments and control valves, but help was needed in implementing such a technology-based initiative.
