Wesco Aircraft is one of the world’s largest distributors and providers of comprehensive supply chain management services to the global aerospace industry. The company’s services range from traditional distribution to the management of supplier relationships, quality assurance, kitting, just-in-time delivery and point-of-use inventory management. The company believes it offers one of the world’s broadest portfolios of aerospace products, including chemical, electrical and C-class hardware and comprised of more than 570,000 active SKUs.
The Challenge
Wesco requirements revolved around complete replacement of an Excel based consolidation and reporting process for actual, plan and forecast. There was also a requirement for additional collections to help manage the business as well as complex currency conversion and reporting to help mitigate FX risk and exposure. Wesco was looking for a unified CPM solution that would simplify their financial consolidation, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis process. Two years of historical data that was very complex needed to be loaded and reconciled, reconciling to management and external reporting.
The Solution
OneStream XF gives Wesco the ability to collect and report budget data centrally, perform FX analysis and provide robust management reporting that was previously unavailable. Wesco was able to streamline their global budget gathering process directly into OneStream and replace their Excel based consolidation and reporting. They were also able to enhance their management reporting through profit center, business line, region and market based reporting. By using SAP profit centers as the basis and driver of Wesco business-line, customer, industry and market reporting, Wesco eliminated weeks of manual effort. Their reports are faster and easier to produce and deliver more detail than their previous Excel and SAP reports. Users enjoy intuitive workspaces and guided user workflows in a centralized, workflow-based budget process. OneStream delivers better processes, improved reporting, more flexibility and improved controls.

The manufacture and assembly of massive fuselage assemblies and other large structures generates a river of data. In fact, the bill of materials for a single fuselage alone can be millions of rows of data. In-house production processes and testing, as well as other manufacturers and customers created data flows that overwhelmed previous processes and information systems. Spirit’s customer base had grown substantially since their 2005 divestiture from Boeing, resulting in a $41 billion backlog of orders to fill. Spirit had a requirement from customers to increase fuselage production by 30%. To accomplish this goal, Spirit needed real-time information on its value chain and workflow. However, the two terabytes of data being pulled from their SAP ECC was unmanageable and overloaded their business warehouse. It had become time-consuming and difficult to pull aggregate data, disaggregate it for the needed information and then reassemble to create a report. During the 6-8 hours it took to build a report, another work shift (they run three per day) would have already taken place, thus the report content was out-of-date before it was ever delivered. As a result, supervisors often had to rely on manual efforts to provide charts, reports and analysis.
