About The Customer
Belron is the world's largest dedicated vehicle glass repair and replacement company, operating under various brand names such as AutoGlass in the UK, CarGlass in Europe, and SafeLite AutoGlass in the US. The company offers 24/7 service to customers and has experienced rapid growth. Belron is committed to excellence in customer service and operational efficiency, which led them to implement Voxware voice technology in their Laddaw distribution center, the largest European distribution center operated by the Belron Group. The company distributes to 18 local centers in the UK and numerous independent glass fitters, emphasizing the importance of accurate and rapid delivery to maintain their high standards of customer service.
The Challenge
Prior to implementing Voxware, Belron's Laddaw distribution center faced significant challenges with their order selection process. Order selectors had to use RF scanners, which required frequent holstering and unholstering, slowing down the process. The correct sequence of picking windscreens was crucial due to their varying curvatures, and any mistake in the order could lead to improper packing and increased rework. The distribution center needed to ensure rapid and accurate delivery to support Belron's commitment to customer satisfaction, as they distribute to 18 local centers in the UK and many independent glass fitters. The existing manual process for determining the best pick sequence was inefficient and prone to errors, necessitating a more streamlined and automated solution.
The Solution
Belron implemented the Voxware VMS Order Picking software in their Laddaw distribution center to address the challenges of their order selection process. The solution included configurable extensions that translated order data from Belron's Oracle system into properly sequenced pick tasks based on business rules. This allowed order selectors to operate hands-free, eliminating the need to handle RF scanners and improving productivity. The Voxware VMS solution also integrated with multiple warehouse management systems, including Oracle and Sterling Commerce, used by different Belron companies. The implementation of Voxware VMS resulted in shorter pick paths, correct handling of products, and reduced operating costs. The system's configurability and flexibility allowed Belron to support their strong corporate growth and efficiently manage spikes in demand.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).

Airport SCADA Systems Improve Service Levels
Modern airports are one of the busiest environments on Earth and rely on process automation equipment to ensure service operators achieve their KPIs. Increasingly airport SCADA systems are being used to control all aspects of the operation and associated facilities. This is because unplanned system downtime can cost dearly, both in terms of reduced revenues and the associated loss of customer satisfaction due to inevitable travel inconvenience and disruption.

Digitize Railway with Deutsche Bahn
To reduce maintenance costs and delay-causing failures for Deutsche Bahn. They need manual measurements by a position measurement system based on custom-made MEMS sensor clusters, which allow autonomous and continuous monitoring with wireless data transmission and long battery. They were looking for data pre-processing solution in the sensor and machine learning algorithms in the cloud so as to detect critical wear.
