About The Customer
KG Media is the media group of Kompas Gramedia, the largest digital network in Indonesia. They manage over 2 billion page-views and 10 billion impressions per month, reaching more than 100 million unique users. The KG Media Digital Network owns and manages more than 75 websites in Bahasa Indonesia, including 8 flagship sites. As a major player in the digital media industry, KG Media was looking for ways to optimize their programmatic revenue and improve their monetization methods.
The Challenge
KG Media, the largest digital network in Indonesia, was facing a decline in the performance of their proprietary container solution used for managing and optimizing their programmatic revenue. As header bidding grew in popularity, KG Media adopted this solution, but over time, the performance of the wrapper decreased. The company was open to making a change and needed to find an alternative method for monetizing their site. They gathered comprehensive technical feedback from many of their header bidding partners and confirmed their shareholders were comfortable with the change.
The Solution
KG Media decided to test and implement Prebid.JS due to its open-source nature and positive feedback from shareholders and trusted advisors like OpenX. They leaned on the technical expertise of the OpenX team to assist with the transition from their proprietary container solution to Prebid and ensure the integration was set up to deliver optimal results. The main goals were to find a container solution that would exceed the performance of the existing integration and lead to revenue growth, ensure the new solution would be transparent and keep all shareholders happy, and diversify the programmatic stack to lessen reliance on just one technology partner for monetization.
Operational Impact
  • Positive feedback from all shareholders
  • Opportunities to introduce new header bidding partners
  • Reduced platform fees
  • Reduced dependency on any one platform
Quantitative Benefit
  • 49% increase in revenue with Prebid.js + OB
  • 72% increase in CPMs
