About The Customer
For over 130 years, SPP Pumps has manufactured centrifugal pumps and pumping systems. They have been used in many industries, including mining, construction, firefighting, power generation, and wastewater. SPP customers' applications are usually very demanding. Their pumps typically operate in hostile or extreme environments around the globe. Servicing the water, oil, and sewage pumps sold by SPP Pumps is a crucial part of the Reading, UK, firm's business.
The Challenge
SPP Pumps had a completely manual process to manage and schedule more than 60 field service calls a day for their 30 field engineers. The mechanism of generating an invoice from the field could take up to 14 days to complete. Service engineers filled out paper forms, signed them, and then faxed the forms back to the head office for each service call. Their administrative staff then had to manually enter work order information into SAP before an invoice could be generated. This manual system of filling out paper forms was time-consuming, resulted in many errors, and created cash flow problems for the company. This paper base system also siloed service engineers from the sales teams and the supply chain hindering communication. Often service engineers would show up to sites without the correct parts or leave without being able to identify to the sales team potential business at the customer sites.
The Solution
A consultant recommended evaluating Jitterbit Harmony, a full-featured cloud integration platform that connects data, apps, and devices with low or no code. Using Harmony, organizations like SPP Pumps can quickly and easily orchestrate, automate, and bridge various applications, business processes, and data views. Jitterbit Harmony makes it easy to integrate systems so you can focus on what you do best. After a careful evaluation, SPP decided to adopt Jitterbit as a critical part of its SAP integration. The result was a 10-day improvement in invoice generation. SPP Pump's service engineers are now able to input their work orders remotely and have the data entered into SAP in real-time for immediate billing.
Operational Impact
  • SPP Pumps can now send invoices to customers in just one day - a 97% improvement over the old paper-based system.
  • This process improvement has resulted in healthier cash flow for the entire business.
  • Not only has cash flow improved, but so has service engineer efficiency.
  • Field engineers now see an inventory of over 120,000 items.
  • They can also order parts through this catalogue, which is then tied back to the service engineers' work orders for a full view of customers' product and service purchases.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Invoice generation improved by 10 days
  • 97% improvement in invoice delivery
  • Revenue per engineer has increased
  • Customers' energy costs cut by 50%
