About The Customer
Purple is a company that provides premier communication services tailored specifically for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They operate in a unique environment and are very particular in selecting partners. The company needed to meet the FCC mandate for telephone relay services (TRS), which enables people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-disabled to use a text telephone (TTY) or an Internet-connected PC to communicate with hearing persons over a telephone. With more than 31 million people in the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Community, Purple needed a service provider with a robust offering and the widest possible footprint.
The Challenge
Purple, a company providing communication services for the deaf or hard of hearing, was faced with a challenge when the FCC issued a mandate for telephone relay services (TRS). This mandate required the use of a text telephone (TTY) or an Internet-connected PC to enable communication between hearing and non-hearing individuals over a telephone. Purple needed a partner to help them meet this FCC mandate. They required a service provider with a robust offering and the widest possible footprint. After an extensive review of the companies in the industry, Purple selected Bandwidth.
The Solution
Bandwidth provided Purple with the largest footprint of coverage across the U.S. to terminate a 9-1-1 call. They also provided a web interface with a complete API and a branded end-user portal for address changes. This resulted in a 99% address acceptance rate on the first submission. Bandwidth helped Purple fulfill the new FCC requirements months ahead of the FCC deadline, providing the necessary API and web tools to successfully launch services by tying into Purple’s signup portals. With Bandwidth, Purple successfully added thousands of new users within a very short time, all without manual interaction, freeing-up vital resources that would have otherwise been used in handling customer support issues.
