About The Customer
Open Mobile is a full-service mobile telecommunications network operator based in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The company offers a complete range of Internet and mobile cellular services including voice, data, Internet, 4G, and LTE (Long-Term Evolution), VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services and more. As one of the prominent mobile service operators on the island, Open Mobile serves hundreds of thousands of subscribers, with its impressive array of flat-rate, unlimited wireless communication services. The company is known for its quality of service and aims to differentiate itself in the competitive mobile telecommunications market of Puerto Rico by providing uninterrupted service.
The Challenge
Open Mobile, a mobile telecommunications network operator based in Puerto Rico, was seeking to enhance its network visibility to maintain and improve its customer experience. The company was facing challenges in troubleshooting problems with LTE signaling traffic, monitoring user plane traffic for service anomalies, overseeing DNS monitoring and call tracing for causal aberrations, and controlling upgrade tasks of their network elements including SPGW and MME. Despite having a well-established technological foundation, the company was using less comprehensive packet analysis and subscriber session trace runs, which were proprietary in function and not providing an end-to-end solution. The company needed a comprehensive end-to-end, performance-monitoring tool that provided data-rich operational intelligence to allow for proactive troubleshooting.
The Solution
To enhance its network visibility and improve its problem identification and resolution capabilities, Open Mobile implemented the nGeniusONE Service Assurance platform, nGenius Subscriber Intelligence Server, InfiniStream appliance, and nGenius Packet Flow Switch (PFS). The nGeniusONE platform provided Open Mobile with enhanced end-to-end network visibility into the network and session elements, enabling proactive service triage. The solution also allowed Open Mobile to better control and troubleshoot upgrade tasks of their MME (Mobile Management Entity), S/PGW (Serving Gateway/PDN Gateway) and other network elements. The InfiniStream appliance and PFS were used for traffic aggregation and distribution, providing granular control of packet flows critical for performance, security, and compliance management.

Vodafone Hosted On AWS
Vodafone found that traffic for the applications peak during the four-month period when the international cricket season is at its height in Australia. During the 2011/2012 cricket season, 700,000 consumers downloaded the Cricket Live Australia application. Vodafone needed to be able to meet customer demand, but didn’t want to invest in additional resources that would be underutilized during cricket’s off-season.
