About The Customer
Vos Logistics is one of the largest international logistic service providers in Europe. The company operates a fleet of over 3,000 trucks equipped with satellite communication and 10,000 loading units. With approximately 5,000 employees working across 30 offices in Europe, Vos Logistics is headquartered in Oss, the Netherlands. The company provides a range of logistics services, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution, and is known for its advanced transport management systems.
The Challenge
Vos Logistics faced significant challenges with unresponsive applications and frozen sessions, which were causing downtime for employees. The main business application, Lovos, was not terminal server aware, leading to server loads of 100 percent. This resulted in non-responsive applications and frozen sessions, necessitating frequent reboots. The organization needed a solution to manage the runaway application and reduce the need for server reboots.
The Solution
Vos Logistics implemented the AppSense Management Suite and AppSense Performance Manager to address their challenges. The AppSense Performance Manager helped control the runaway application by limiting the CPU time it consumed, eliminating the need for server reboots. The organization also upgraded its IT infrastructure, including Citrix XenApp 4.5, Windows Server 2003, VMware ESX Server with VMotion, and a NetApp storage area network. Microsoft App-V technology was introduced for streaming applications to desktops. The AppSense Management Suite played a crucial role in standardizing applications and user environments on virtualized desktops, ensuring a secure and locked-down environment.
Operational Impact
  • The AppSense Performance Manager effectively controlled the runaway application, reducing the need for server reboots.
  • The AppSense Management Suite standardized applications and user environments, providing a consistent experience across virtualized desktops.
  • The new IT infrastructure, including Citrix XenApp, VMware ESX Server, and Microsoft App-V, enhanced the overall performance and reliability of the system.
  • The solution allowed for seamless application access, setting application shortcuts, loading registry keys, and mapping printers, reducing the need for manual intervention.
  • The ease of use of the AppSense Management Suite saved significant time for the IT staff, allowing them to focus on more critical tasks.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced support costs through rollback of personal settings.
  • Eliminated the need for server reboots, saving time and resources.
  • Reduced the total number of Citrix XenApp servers required.
