About The Customer
Feonix – Mobility Rising is a non-profit organization established in 2018, dedicated to eliminating transportation inequities in rural and urban communities. As a registered 501(c)(3) organization, Feonix supports local leaders in developing community-led strategies to address long-term mobility challenges. The organization operates in four states—South Carolina, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas—and serves over 378 communities. Feonix integrates emerging technologies into local transportation ecosystems, focusing on filling mobility gaps in rural and transit-isolated areas. Their mission is rooted in Mobility as a Service (MaaS), aiming to provide improved mobility solutions for diverse communities.
The Challenge
Feonix - Mobility Rising faced significant challenges in providing transportation services to rural communities. These areas had large service areas with diverse ridership needs and limited mobility resources, such as vehicles, drivers, and hours of operation. Additionally, there was a huge disparity in the number of cancelled rides between rural and urban areas. The organization needed a solution to reduce mobility gaps and provide available, on-demand services to these underserved communities.
The Solution
Feonix implemented the QRyde technology platform to address the mobility challenges in rural areas. QRyde offers low-cost transportation solutions accessible via call center, website, and smartphone app. The platform allows riders, communities, and caregivers to book multimodal trips, providing a variety of transportation options. The QRyde Marketplace enables transportation providers to accept or decline ride requests, eliminating the need for expensive dispatch software. This system benefits both large and small providers and offers riders a broader range of transportation choices. Additionally, the platform allows medical campuses and case managers to act as mobility managers, tailoring transportation options to meet specific rider needs.
Operational Impact
  • Better management of healthcare rides by allowing booking agents to choose transportation providers that best suit their clients' specific mobility needs, such as selecting NEMTAC certified drivers or vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts.
  • Successful implementation of volunteer driver programs using QRyde, exemplified by the Winnebago Catch-A-Ride (WCAR) program in rural Winnebago County, WI, which provided 84 rides from six volunteer drivers over a three-month pilot period in 2019.
  • Provision of MaaS using public transit, TNCs, private providers, etc., for seniors in South Carolina, Texas, and Michigan. QRyde’s web portal, app, and call center allow community members of all ages to easily view all transportation options available to them and select the one that best meets their scheduling and budget needs. Riders can schedule multi-leg trips across multiple service providers and make a single payment for a complete trip, with QRyde distributing fares to the appropriate providers on the back end.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 6,204 rides provided between August 2018 and December 2020 to over 30 communities.
  • QRyde platform used in 4 states and 378 communities.
