About The Customer
The customer in this case study is the Kyiv Regional State Administration, responsible for managing the transportation system in the Ukrainian capital and the Kyiv region. The administration was seeking a solution to improve the efficiency and control of the public transport system. The solution was also intended to assist passengers in using public transport more effectively by providing them with real-time information on bus schedules and routes. The administration also wanted to facilitate better collaboration with carriers by providing them access to the same system.
The Challenge
The Kyiv Regional State Administration was facing a challenge in controlling the transportation system in the Ukrainian capital and the Kyiv region. Passengers were also struggling with the efficient use of public transport due to a lack of online information on schedules and routes. The administration needed a solution that could provide real-time tracking of buses and offer information on stops and schedules. The solution also needed to be accessible to carriers for planning routes and assigning buses.
The Solution
Wialon's partner in Ukraine, OVERSEER, along with Surbis LLC, developed a NimBus-based mobile application called KyivBus. This application tracks buses online and provides information on stops and schedules. The administration uses NimBus to manage buses, bus stops, schedules, and routes. Carriers also have access to this web application, allowing them to plan routes and assign buses. NimBus provides all the data to KyivBus via the NimBus API. The mobile application is available for download from app stores. The solution also features a Remote API that enables it to work with Wialon Local, allowing KyivBus to track the units’ location in real-time.

The company has a long track record of innovative technology solutions. For example, 3M helps its customers optimize parking operations by automating fee collection and other processes. To improve support for this rapidly expanding segment, 3M needed to automate its own data collection and reporting. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
