The Challenge
In 2011, the government of China mandated that all trucks be connected to the TransWiseway Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform. As a result, Beijing-based TransWiseway Information Technology Co. Ltd. needed to grow its platform to support and serve 10 million simultaneously connected vehicles while managing the massive amounts of data generated by the solution. The company was faced with the challenge of expanding its platform to accommodate the growing number of connected vehicles and the data they generate. The Solution
TransWiseway utilized IBM's MobileFirst Platform and MessageSight to enhance its Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform. This allowed the company to collect and analyze data from millions of connected vehicles in real time, improving safety and decision making. Customers can now access traffic, weather, route, vehicle maintenance and driver safety data through a web interface, smart devices or terminals inside the trucks. Cloud-based access facilitates third-party app development, helping companies improve efficiency and reduce costs. The company now has the largest IoV platform in China, capable of supporting and serving 10 million simultaneously connected vehicles.

For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
