Mariners Church is a non-denominational church located in Southern California. It is one of the largest of its kind in the region, with three separate locations of worship in Orange County, CA, specifically in the cities of Irvine, Mission Viejo, and Huntington Beach. The church is known for its innovative use of technology to reach out to the community and expand its congregation. It has a diverse membership, including a significant number of young people, and organizes a variety of functions and activities for its members.
The Challenge
Mariners Church, one of the largest non-denominational churches in Southern California, was seeking a creative and effective way to communicate with its members, particularly the youth. The church had a limited budget and needed a communication tool that could keep more members informed about church functions and activities. The church has always been known for utilizing the latest technologies to reach out to the community and expand its congregation, and this situation was no different.
The Solution
Mariners Church implemented a mobile messaging solution to communicate with its members. The church collected mobile numbers from members by publicly posting various mobile keywords all over the church campus. Three main mobile keywords were set up -- 'MarinersJH,' 'MarinersHS,' and 'MarinersC' to segment contact lists for Junior High, High School, and College ministries, respectively. Hundreds of messages are sent out almost every day, covering a broad range of topics including reminders to attend upcoming events, daily prayer memos, and SMS blasts to stir up crowds for last-minute events. The church also schedules messages in advance to make their communication efforts even more convenient.
