The Challenge
In the aviation equipment industry, ensuring the highest quality standards is paramount for safety. However, timely delivery is also crucial to meet customer assembly and release deadlines. Corse composites aéronautiques (CCA) faces the challenge of balancing ultimate quality with speedy production. Additionally, controlling costs is a significant issue due to the high expense of composite materials. Prototypes need to be accurate on the first attempt, and nesting and cutting processes must be efficient. Proper post-cut marking for perfect traceability is also essential.
The Solution
CCA has been a customer of Lectra for 20 years, benefiting from their advanced CAD/CAM solutions. The company decided to overhaul its CAD/CAM systems to take advantage of Lectra's new technologies, including VectorTechTex FX, Diamino TechTex MarkPro, and DesignConcept TechTex. The VectorTechTex FX features a kit-cut blade that doesn't heat up, allowing for cleaner cuts and reducing the need for frequent blade changes. The integrated die-cutter function eliminates an entire step in the production process, resulting in less fabric waste. Diamino TechTex's automatic nesting features have yielded material savings of 10% and significant time savings. DesignConcept TechTex has revolutionized CCA's design office, allowing for accurate designs on the first attempt and reducing the need for physical prototype modifications.

The manufacture and assembly of massive fuselage assemblies and other large structures generates a river of data. In fact, the bill of materials for a single fuselage alone can be millions of rows of data. In-house production processes and testing, as well as other manufacturers and customers created data flows that overwhelmed previous processes and information systems. During the 6-8 hours it took to build a report, another work shift (they run three per day) would have already taken place, thus the report content was out-of-date before it was ever delivered.
