The company has been using the NETSCOUT nGeniusONE Service Assurance platform to help their IT organization deliver reliable business services to their front-line field workers and Call Center agents.
The Challenge
The leading U.S. energy company faced a significant challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The company had to send home 13,000 workers in response to government stay-at-home work orders. This sudden shift to remote work posed a significant challenge to the company's IT infrastructure, particularly its virtual private network (VPN) which had to support a much larger remote user base. The company needed to ensure uninterrupted power delivery to its customers during this critical period. The company's ability to provide uninterrupted energy was crucial, especially for hospitals and other essential services.
The Solution
The company relied on their existing nGeniusONE analytics workflows and deployed InfiniStreamNG (ISNG) appliances to meet the challenge. The IT team was able to visualize VPN traffic increases and monitor any associated impact on network, application, or business service performance, as well as performance degradations to user experience. They were also able to view the performance of two different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) operating from two different company Data Centers and generate executive reporting to validate VPN performance to leadership. Local NETSCOUT personnel played an important role in assisting these efforts, collaborating with their IT peers in the days preceding the work-at-home directives to establish a number of VPN-centric views and reports to validate service performance.
