ATICS, Ltd./The Ceramic Factory
About The Customer
The Ceramic Factory - Botevgrad is one of the leading suppliers of construction materials in Bulgaria. Located in a small town near Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, the company is known for its industrial area where many big companies have built factories and subsidiaries. The company has experienced recent growth as the construction industry continues to grow in Bulgaria. The company required advanced industrial automation software solutions to visualize and control its manufacturing processes and to increase productivity. ATICS, Ltd., the ICONICS sales channel partner, worked with LogiSoft, a systems integrator, to provide these solutions to the Bulgarian brick maker.
The Challenge
The Ceramic Factory - Botevgrad, a leading supplier of construction materials in Bulgaria, was experiencing growth in line with the booming construction industry in the country. With this growth, the company faced the challenge of visualizing its manufacturing processes, particularly those involving its furnaces and the transportation line for the produced bricks. The company also needed to monitor and report on these processes to manage downtime and increase productivity. As the business expanded, the company realized the need for robust, premium solutions to meet its visualization, control, and reporting needs. The solution had to integrate with the company's existing VIPA PLCs, approximately 150 I/O points, and KEP OPC Server for Siemens PLCs. It also needed to work with the company's Microsoft Access database and its desktops and servers running Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
The Solution
The Ceramic Factory - Botevgrad, in collaboration with ATICS, Ltd and Logisoft, chose to install ICONICS’ GENESIS32™ V9 Web-enabled, OPC-integrated HMI/SCADA suite, and ICONICS’ ReportWorX™ enterprise reporting/charting/analysis software, a component of ICONICS BizViz™ Manufacturing Intelligence/Business Visualization suite. The installation was completed within six weeks of request, and was easily performed by its system integrator LogiSoft, with assistance by ICONICS channel partner ATICS, Ltd. The implementation of ICONICS GENESIS32 and ReportWorX required no additional scripts or programming. The solutions, such as GENESIS32, integrated with OPC technology, providing a basis for improved system communications and allowing for secure, open connectivity from plants and facilities to the enterprise level.

Airport SCADA Systems Improve Service Levels
Modern airports are one of the busiest environments on Earth and rely on process automation equipment to ensure service operators achieve their KPIs. Increasingly airport SCADA systems are being used to control all aspects of the operation and associated facilities. This is because unplanned system downtime can cost dearly, both in terms of reduced revenues and the associated loss of customer satisfaction due to inevitable travel inconvenience and disruption.

Digitize Railway with Deutsche Bahn
To reduce maintenance costs and delay-causing failures for Deutsche Bahn. They need manual measurements by a position measurement system based on custom-made MEMS sensor clusters, which allow autonomous and continuous monitoring with wireless data transmission and long battery. They were looking for data pre-processing solution in the sensor and machine learning algorithms in the cloud so as to detect critical wear.

Vehicle Fleet Analytics
Organizations frequently implement a maintenance strategy for their fleets of vehicles using a combination of time and usage based maintenance schedules. While effective as a whole, time and usage based schedules do not take into account driving patterns, environmental factors, and sensors currently deployed within the vehicle measuring crank voltage, ignition voltage, and acceleration, all of which have a significant influence on the overall health of the vehicle. In a typical fleet, a large percentage of road calls are related to electrical failure, with battery failure being a common cause. Battery failures result in unmet service agreement levels and costly re-adjustment of scheduled to provide replacement vehicles. To reduce the impact of unplanned maintenance, the transportation logistics company was interested in a trial of C3 Vehicle Fleet Analytics.
