About The Customer
This hospital network had gone through significant changes over the last decade, from both organic patient growth and strategic mergers and acquisitions. There are thousands of physicians, nurses, and staff administering care to hundreds of thousands of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room patients every year. With more than a dozen hospitals and a hundred medical facilities, this hospital network is one of the largest in its region and essential to the healthcare of its community. The dependency on their networked applications, including electronic medical records (EMR) and imaging services, can’t be overstated. Their IT team is dedicated to delivering network, application, security, and performance tools that support these healthcare professionals.
The Challenge
The hospital network had gone through significant changes over the last decade, from both organic patient growth and strategic mergers and acquisitions. With one goal in mind – speedy, safe, secure, and efficient delivery of patient care services, the Information Technology (IT) team at this healthcare plays a pivotal role in delivering digital transformations to meet the evolving needs of the hospital organization. Their planned data center transformation was their latest effort to take their technology and applications to a new level in support of patient care services.
The Solution
Following the evaluation of NETSCOUT solutions, the hospital’s IT organization selected the nGeniusONE Service Assurance solution, nGenius Packet Flow Switches, and NETSCOUT Visibility as a Service (VaaS) offerings to address the several challenges they were facing. The nGeniusONE Service Assurance solution was selected, in part, because of its ability to monitor and analyze all their applications in real time, with this NETSCOUT platform supporting more than 1,000 preconfigured voice, video, and data services. Crucial to the hospital and the NetOps team was nGeniusONE’s in-depth analysis and key performance indicators for Citrix Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI) for secure access to services like Epic EMR, their mobile communications service, Software as a service applications (SaaS) such as Microsoft Office 365, and Business and clinical applications hosted in public cloud including MS Azure. nGeniusONE enables the IT organization to build dashboards and workflows that include critical applications and dependencies, which makes it faster and more effective to determine where root cause of slowdowns may reside. Additionally, nGeniusONE helps the NetOps team reduce the time to troubleshoot and resolve (MTTR) complex issues, enabling quick restoration of quality to patientcare-impacting applications.
Operational Impact
  • Protected quality performance of patient-facing applications and staff communications services
  • Achieve a quick time to value from their new NETSCOUT implementation, helping ensure staff productivity and lower MTTR
  • The NetOps team in this healthcare organization is leveraging NETSCOUT to help ensure quality, performance, and security of all their patient-impacting services
  • They are lowering MTTR in troubleshooting problems when they occur throughout the new data center from their distributed hospitals and medical buildings
  • Partnering with the NETSCOUT VaaS team has brought skills and best-practices expertise that are helping them ensure medical professionals, staff, and patients have unimpeded use of critical application services, which is improving productivity of high-value employees
