About The Customer
Furtex Limited is a manufacturer and wholesaler of high-end soft furnishings. As a fourth-generation, family-owned business, Furtex takes pride in its growing operations. The company deals with a complex set of transactions, including in-bound global sourcing and lot control of serialized items. To manage these complexities, Furtex moved to NetSuite to leverage a cloud-based ERP system. However, they faced challenges with poor control and visibility of their stock in NetSuite, prompting them to search for a mobile solution to enable better inventory control.
The Challenge
As Furtex Limited experienced growth, their distribution faced challenges in terms of storage and poor visibility into their stock, which slowed down operations and impacted sales and customer service. Sonny Dhesi, Head of Operations and ICT, sought a solution to manage inventory more efficiently. With previous experience in logistics and lean operations, Sonny evaluated several inventory management solutions. Based on a recommendation from NetSuite, Sonny considered RF-SMART, which demonstrated features that could fit well into Furtex's operations.
The Solution
Furtex implemented RF-SMART to address their inventory management challenges. The solution included several functionalities such as bin transfers, cross docking, cycle counting, labeling, kitting, and work orders & assembly builds. RF-SMART's bin transfer functionality allowed employees to scan items once to complete the job, improving efficiency. Cross docking functionality increased efficiency by directing items to the preferred bin or holding bay. Cycle counting eradicated the need for annual stock counts by scheduling weekly and monthly targets. Labeling and pre-loaded images improved quality and saved time. Kitting functionality ensured that items for kits were only picked when all parts were available. Work orders & assembly builds provided visibility into raw materials and helped control waste, allowing Furtex to create finished goods.
