About The Customer
Industrial Engine Service (IES) is a company that has been working with oil and gas drilling companies for close to 30 years. IES builds, rebuilds, modifies, and restores industrial-sized engines and generators. In this area, they compete directly against well-positioned competitors including Stewart & Stevenson, Compressor Systems Inc., and Hanover Compressor Company. The company was acquired by co-owner Susan Brusaw, who recognized the need to upgrade business processes in order to compete at a higher level.
The Challenge
Industrial Engine Service (IES) was struggling with a legacy inventory system that was riddled with errors and required numerous workarounds. The company was frequently losing and mismanaging parts, and employees found it difficult to keep track of all the separate parts going into each project. The old DOS system was confusing for many employees and processes were not under sufficient control. IES recognized that to compete at the level they wanted, they needed more control over their inventory and manufacturing processes. However, their complex processes couldn't be handled by a simple inventory system.
The Solution
IES explored various options for a complete inventory, sales, and purchasing solution. They first considered upgrading their existing system but ruled that out due to the expensive price-tag and lack of essential features. They also considered using QuickBooks as their inventory solution, but it wasn't enough to cover IES’ growing demands. After searching for a feasible solution, IES discovered Fishbowl. They were intrigued by the low price and advanced features, and after downloading the free trial version and exploring the software, they decided to make the switch. Fishbowl Manufacturing integrated with QuickBooks, providing a user-friendly interface and eliminating the need for double data entry.
