About The Customer
Dakota Red Corporation is a holding company headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It consists of King’s Material, Midland Concrete Products, Hawkeye Ready Mix, and Stone Concepts. These entities offer ready mix concrete, landscaping, concrete masonry, brick, and a large assortment of building products. The company has 12 locations and 15 entities. Prior to the implementation of Acumatica, the company was using Sage 100, along with spreadsheets and Microsoft Access, to manage its operations. The company was looking for a solution that could handle multiple entities, improve reporting capabilities, and accommodate more users as they grew and acquired more firms.
The Challenge
Dakota Red Corporation, a holding company for King’s Material, Midland Concrete Products, Hawkeye Ready Mix, and Stone Concepts, was facing challenges with its outdated business processes and technology. The company had been using the same computer and software system since 1988, supplemented by spreadsheets, Microsoft Access, and later Sage 100. As the company grew, it added more databases and spreadsheets to keep track of various business entities. The impending retirement of the company's CFO, who had installed the first computer and software system, prompted a review of the company's business processes and technology. The company realized that an ERP system integrated with financial software could greatly improve operations.
The Solution
Dakota Red Corporation chose Acumatica as their ERP solution due to its unlimited user pricing, ability to handle multiple entities, and ease of integration with third-party software. The company implemented Acumatica’s Manufacturing Edition, which includes Financial Management, Manufacturing, and Distribution Management Software, among others. They also have plans to add Acumatica’s payroll system and CRM. The company also appreciated the option to purchase and host the software itself rather than locking into a SaaS solution. The implementation of Acumatica was facilitated by Acumatica’s partner, K&R Consulting Group, Inc.
Operational Impact
  • With Acumatica, Dakota Red Corporation has dramatically improved visibility with intercompany connections throughout 15 entities and 12 locations.

  • The company went from having 10 people using Sage to more than 70 using Acumatica.
  • The company expects to reduce its total inventory by somewhere between $1.5 million and $2 million dollars.
