About The Customer
Komli Media is a leading real-time digital technology platform in the Asia Pacific region, delivering integrated real-time display, mobile, video, social, and search advertising solutions. The company is focused on innovating and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance the effectiveness of display advertising. Komli Media generates terabytes of data daily, including statistics around ad impressions, clicks, and bids handled. The company aims to provide performance advertising for its advertisers by reaching millions of the right consumers across the Internet at the right time. Komli Media's business model is centered around delivering optimal return on ad spend for advertisers through sophisticated algorithms, real-time technologies, and data analytics.
The Challenge
Komli Media aims to close the significant gap in click-through rates (CTR) between search ads and display ads. Google achieves approximately a 2% CTR on search ads, while the average CTR for display ads is only 0.1%. To bridge this gap, Komli Media needs to innovate on cutting-edge technologies to process tens of thousands of requests per second, deliver analytics on terabytes of transactional data, and match users with the best possible ads for optimal return on ad spend. The challenge involves implementing a robust infrastructure capable of handling real-time bidding (RTB), ad price prediction, and big data analytics at web-scale, with redundancy to ensure 99.999% availability.
The Solution
Komli Media's solution architecture for display ads is an integrated set of transactional and analytical data management systems. On the analytics side, they have implemented an Apache Hadoop-based data pipeline cluster along with HP Vertica online analytical processing (OLAP) clusters for reporting. On the transaction side, the Aerospike real-time NoSQL database plays a central role. The Aerospike cluster combines real-time data with information and analysis from Vertica and Hadoop to respond to queries in milliseconds. This architecture allows Komli Media to link historical data and trend analysis with real-time data, such as user clicks, cookies, or geo-location data, to serve highly targeted and relevant ads. Additionally, Komli Media has built a private virtual cloud infrastructure, enabling them to optimize hardware throughput and maintain agility in code deployments. The hybrid environment also provides disaster recovery capabilities and ensures 24x7 high availability through cross-data center replication and fault-tolerance features within the Aerospike database clusters.

Darwin Ecosystem: Accelerating discovery and insight through cutting-edge big data and cognitive technologies
Darwin Ecosystem was founded with a unique vision of harnessing chaos theory mathematics to uncover previously hidden connections in unstructured data. The company’s algorithms can look at all the data generated by any source (such as news, RSS feeds and Twitter), and analyze how a specific set of concepts within that data are evolving over time. This is particularly valuable in situations such as business and competitive intelligence, social research, brand monitoring, legal discovery, risk mitigation and even law enforcement. A common problem in these areas is that a regular web search will only turn up the all-time most popular answers to a given question – but what the expert researcher is actually interested in is the moment-tomoment evolution of the data available on that topic. Darwin’s algorithm is computationally intensive, and the sources of data it correlates can be vast. To bring its benefits to a larger commercial audience, Darwin needed to find a way to make it scale.

Delivering modern data protection with cloud scale backup from Cobalt Iron and IBM
Organizations are struggling to modernize their legacy data protection environments in the face of growing demands around new infrastructure, new applications, and budget consolidation. Virtualization and modern application development processes have significantly outgrown legacy backup architectures. In response, infrastructure teams have created multiple backup solution types to handle the varying SLAs (performance, scale, cost) required by their business sponsors. However, the sheer number and variety of solutions in this uncontrolled expansion creates huge amounts of work, threatening to overwhelm the IT team in many organizations. Today, developers may add new applications and virtual server instances by the hundreds per day without accounting for the restrictions of the existing backup infrastructure. They leverage the cloud for immediate compute and storage resources, yet rarely communicate succinctly with corporate IT to ensure that the appropriate data protection services are in place.
