About The Customer
Greater Lismore covers an area of 1,267 square kilometres and includes various utility and parks assets, as well as hundreds of kilometres of drainage, roads, and footpath infrastructure. Lismore City Council is responsible for maintaining these assets and infrastructure, which involves tasks such as preventative maintenance, cleaning, concreting, pothole patching, inspections, and minor and urgent works. The council's field recordkeeping and maintenance management were previously paper-based, leading to inefficiencies and inaccuracies in recording and delivering the required information to relevant personnel.
The Challenge
Lismore City Council faced inefficiencies and inaccuracies in their paper-based field recordkeeping and maintenance management system. The existing process required field staff to spend significant time in the office handling paperwork, which reduced their productivity in the field. The council recognized the need to streamline data collection processes to allow field staff and supervisors to spend more time on actual maintenance tasks and improve Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
The Solution
Acresta collaborated with Lismore City Council to implement a mobile solution using the Blink Mobility Platform and Acresta Adaptors. The solution included smart, intuitive forms accessible across different device types, allowing field staff to complete tasks on a single mobile device. The pilot project demonstrated significant efficiency gains by integrating online forms with the Mex Work Order backend system. The solution also included pre-vehicle checks, work orders, risk inspections, timesheets, and leave requests, all accessible through a secure virtual machine. The system was designed in PHP and operated under a secure instance of Apache, providing a robust and modular framework for rapid addition of new form types.
Operational Impact
  • Field staff can now complete all requirements on a single mobile device while out in the field, even when out of telecommunication range.
  • Supervisors have more time to assist with actual maintenance tasks, as they are freed from staff coordination issues.
  • Automated pre-filling and post-filling of form data save field personnel from manual data entry and calculations.
  • Forms are automatically saved at submission, eliminating the need for manual sorting and storage in the TRIM repository.
  • The solution ensures 100% completion of Work Health and Safety compliance forms, with easy tracking of outstanding work orders.
Quantitative Benefit
  • 100% completion target for Work Health and Safety compliance forms.
  • Significant efficiency gains in field services business processes.
  • Reduction in time spent on paperwork, allowing more productive time in the field.
