About The Customer
Alvarez Technology Group, based in Salinas, California, is a well-established IT Managed Service Provider (MSP) with over 20 years of experience. They specialize in building networks, voice systems, and security/access control systems for small businesses, banks, and local governments. With the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana in California, Alvarez Technology Group saw an opportunity to expand their services to the cannabis industry, which has strict regulations regarding security camera monitoring. By leveraging their expertise, they have been able to provide valuable services to this newly regulated industry, ensuring compliance and enhancing security for their clients.
The Challenge
In the regulated cannabis industry, there are stringent requirements for security camera monitoring. Cameras must cover every square foot of the facility, operate 24/7, and retain footage for at least 90 days. Any downtime or malfunction can result in the facility losing its cannabis license. This makes the monitoring of these cameras crucial for compliance and business continuity. Additionally, security cameras are vital for protecting against theft, mitigating lawsuits, and preventing fraudulent insurance claims. However, most businesses do not proactively monitor these systems, leading to potential issues when the footage is needed.
The Solution
Alvarez Technology Group utilized Domotz to enhance their security camera monitoring services. Domotz's primary network monitoring functionality allows them to receive immediate status updates when a camera goes offline. A ticket is automatically generated, enabling the team to track and address the issue promptly. They can remotely log into the network using the Domotz Dashboard to validate the camera's status and issue a power cycle if necessary. Once the camera is back online, they can verify its functionality by viewing the streaming image and then close the ticket. All actions are logged and recorded for auditing purposes. Additionally, Alvarez Technology Group takes advantage of Domotz's reporting features to provide customized reports to their clients. These reports include the status of all monitored systems and current images from the security cameras, extracted using Domotz APIs. This not only validates the online status and functionality of the cameras but also demonstrates the value and responsiveness of their services to their clients.

Smart City Public Safety
Amyx+ worked with a local government authority to develop an Internet of Things-enabled public safety strategy. In the current state, vigilance meant manually scanning through potentially hundreds of analog surveillance videos feeds. Manual, costly and ineffective, the local agency desired to transition from analog to digital CCTV, apply computer vision and other technologies to automatically detect potential crime in progress, expedite and streamline emergency calls and integrate with personal wearables to ensure the safety of their citizens.
