The Challenge
Expandium, a provider of network monitoring and management systems, was faced with the challenge of finding a robust analytics solution. Their mobile telco customers required near-real-time insights into the events impacting their large and complex networks, specifically those that could potentially affect their Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The need was for a solution that could be integrated into the intelligent systems Expandium was building, to provide deep visibility into network events, down to individual calls. The solution had to be capable of handling the massive volumes of data generated by these networks and deliver insights quickly enough for proactive issue resolution.
The Solution
Expandium found the solution in the Actian hybrid cloud data warehouse, a next-generation operational analytics platform. Actian's vector analytics capability allowed Expandium to build Operational Support Systems (OSS) that provided deep visibility into network events. The hybrid cloud data warehouse could run in the cloud, on-premises, or in a blended configuration, offering flexibility based on customer needs. Actian's powerful vector processing features enabled Expandium to exploit CPU cache to perform analyses at speeds up to 100 times faster than would be possible in RAM, even when using industry-standard hardware. This meant that even for large networks, insights could be delivered rapidly, meeting the needs of Expandium's customers.
Operational Impact
  • The integration of Actian's hybrid cloud data warehouse into Expandium's network monitoring and management systems has proven to be indispensable in delivering timely insights. Actian's data visualization tools enable Expandium to present network intelligence in easy-to-digest formats, even when operators are reviewing huge data sets.
