The Universidad Europea de Madrid (UEM) is a private higher education institution with a full range of degrees and expert courses in a variety of disciplines. The university was facing a challenge to efficiently extract and analyze institutional data so administrators can implement corrective measures and control key management variables. The faculty and staff required access to current financial and operational information to keep administrative costs down, align academic initiatives with strategic objectives, and streamline many facets of the operation. For an educational institution, the ability to quickly and effectively analyze student, administrative, and financial data can translate into significant improvements in enrollment numbers, student performance, and fiscal efficiency. With these goals in mind, UEM set in motion an Information Systems Master Plan that uses Information Builders’ WebFOCUS BI platform to create analytic applications for key decision-makers throughout the campus.

UEM implemented Information Builders’ WebFOCUS BI platform to create analytic applications for key decision-makers throughout the campus. The primary objective was to make it easy to access and analyze institutional information as well as to improve and accelerate strategic decision-making. The university designed BI applications to simplify management tasks and strengthen the budgetary process within multiple departments. It selected WebFOCUS to report against a data warehouse that serves multiple departments at UEM’s main campus in Madrid and a satellite campus in Valencia. The warehouse stores aggregated operational and financial data from the university’s academic management systems, human resources applications, sales systems, accounting applications, and CRM system. Leveraging information from the data warehouse, the team used WebFOCUS to automate the delivery of operational data and reports for administrators and faculty members.

Fundacio Puigvert, a leading European medical center specializing in Urology, Nephrology, and Andrology, faced a significant challenge in training its surgical residents. The institution recognized the need for a more standardized and comprehensive training curriculum, particularly in the area of robotic surgery. The challenge was underscored by two independent studies showing that less than 5% of residents in Italian and German residency programs could perform major or complex procedures by the end of their residency.
