Travix, formed in 2011, is a leading online travel agency that provides flights, hotels, car rentals, insurance, and other travel-related services around the world. The company prides itself on providing the right solution to customers at the right time, which has helped drive sales higher. Travix's five main brands generate over 20 million unique searches, creating a vast amount of business intelligence (BI) data. This data helps Travix tailor its services to suit its customers. However, by 2015, the company's existing IT infrastructure was struggling to handle the volume of BI data, leading to the need for a new scalable, cloud-based, high-speed solution.

Travix, a leading online travel agency, was struggling with handling the massive amount of business intelligence (BI) data generated from over 20 million unique searches. The existing BI solution, which consisted of several dashboard tools and databases, was hosted on servers maintained by several IT staff. By 2015, the infrastructure was straining under the pressure of so much traffic. It was costly and time-consuming for the operations team to maintain the data centers. Travix needed a new scalable, cloud-based, high-speed solution to handle both batch processing and streaming data jobs. The company also wanted to build on its data-driven environment and improve agility to stay competitive in the high-volume, low-margin online travel business.

Travix chose Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Looker for its new IT infrastructure. Google BigQuery became the main tool for taking in and storing the data, with services in Kubernetes used to schedule and run the jobs that needed executing. For the streaming data jobs, Travix used Cloud Pub/Sub and Cloud Dataflow to ensure smooth performance with consistent results, regardless of the load. Meanwhile, Cloud Storage was used for holding static files in a safe, easy-to-access space online. Looker was chosen as the new tool for the BI team for analytical dashboarding and data exploration. It integrated quickly and easily with Google BigQuery, catering to all levels of analysis, from exploration via dashboards to one-page summaries. With Looker and GCP, Travix built a platform that streamlines business intelligence within the company, allowing for higher-level analyses without compromising on performance or scalability.
