The challenge was to optimize the website for heavy load and prevent server failure.

To address the challenge of heavy website traffic during the race weekend, the San Francisco Marathon opted for the Cloudflare Business plan. This immediately improved the site's performance. Using third-party tools like Pingdom, webpagetest.org, and loadimpact.com, they were able to decrease the page load time by over 2 seconds.
