关于客户
The NHS Wales Informatics Service is responsible for providing national IT systems and services to the Welsh NHS. They provide over 80 clinical and business applications across NHS Wales and direct IT service and desktop support to approximately 15,000 staff. About 12,000 of those staff members work in general practices in clinical or administrative staff roles, serving approximately three million citizens across Wales. The team within the NHS Wales Informatics Service has seen a shift in users leveraging cloud technologies on multiple devices over the past five years. This has led to a significant change in the roles of the team members, with the engineering staff transitioning from managing physical computer hardware and systems to managing cloud services.
挑战
NHS Wales faced a significant challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic as they were forced to transition to remote work. The challenge was a combination of balancing logistical needs with maintaining quality of care. The NHS Wales Informatics Service, responsible for providing national IT systems and services to the Welsh NHS, had to adapt to this new situation. They provide direct IT service and desktop support to approximately 15,000 staff, with 12,000 of those staff members working in general practices in clinical or administrative staff roles, serving approximately three million citizens across Wales. The traditional approach of providing each user with a laptop and a VPN connection was not feasible due to the skyrocketing global demand for laptops. Therefore, they needed a solution that could provide remote access to the systems needed by the GPs.
解决方案
NHS Wales Informatics Service turned to BeyondTrust for a solution. They had been introduced to BeyondTrust in 2017 and had been using their product, Bomgar, which is now known as BeyondTrust Remote Support. The flexibility of the product to integrate with their existing systems was a key selling feature. When the pandemic hit, they approached BeyondTrust to see if they could help their GPs get remote access to the systems they needed. They agreed to do a pilot using BeyondTrust to provide remote access from a GP’s home to their practice. Within a fortnight, they connected 308 practices and registered 1,500 users. This setup included multi-factor authentication (MFA) to ensure system security, no matter which device they used to connect.
运营影响
  • The solution provided by BeyondTrust allowed hundreds of GP Practice Staff to resume work safely and securely, which had a positive impact on patient care.
  • The solution was well utilised, and what began as a temporary measure to deal with the pandemic and the local lockdowns sparked a desire to make it a permanent part of their normal healthcare offerings.
  • The solution allowed them to better understand which roles are most compatible with remote working and to role profile their user base to help better assess remote work needs going forward.
数量效益
  • Connected 308 practices within a fortnight.
  • Registered 1,500 users within a fortnight.
