Previously, this company provided information services to its customers using a database subscription model. Through this model, customers had to subscribe to entire databases; buying more data than necessary. Additionally, the company’s data architecture needed to be more flexible in order for them to fully exploit new revenue opportunities, scale its business and provide meaningful and enriched data to its customers. Considering the large amounts of data they managed, this company needed data virtualization.

After looking at other vendors’ options, the company opted for a Denodo Data Virtualization solution. They rebuilt their entire massive data architecture with Denodo at the core. The new architecture leverages the Denodo Data Virtualization Layer to provide a unified, single source of access and truth to their clients. All enterprise data entities: oil wells, oil rigs, lease information, and more are now easy accessible in a variety of usable formats. The architecture contained two virtual data layers: an enterprise data model (EDM) which provides unified virtual views of canonically defined entities like wells, rigs, and leases, as well as a collection of application data marts (ADM) which combine the different canonical views to provide application specific virtual views or virtual data marts.
