DFS, a sofa retailer and manufacturer with 51 operating centres across the UK, faces the challenge of controlling driver behaviour to ensure safety, cost-effectiveness, and optimal fleet performance. With around 250 7.5-ton vehicles and 45 articulated vehicles with 80 trailers, DFS delivers 12,000 orders weekly. The drivers not only drive but also install furniture, making customer service a top priority. The main challenge is to monitor and provide feedback on driver behaviour to maintain high safety standards and reduce fuel costs.

DFS implemented the Microlise Fleet Performance product, including its safety module, to monitor harsh acceleration, braking, and cornering. This system identifies and records events, providing detailed information about the conditions at the time, allowing the transport team to analyze and debrief drivers effectively. Additionally, DFS installed the Microlise ClearVision camera system, which integrates with the telematics and safety module. This setup enables the team to review footage around incidents, gaining a comprehensive understanding of events before, during, and after any incident. DFS is also trialling the Microlise in-cab navigation systems and exploring an interface between its in-house systems and Microlise to provide customers with real-time delivery status updates.
