Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) is the largest medical facility in the region. It is a modern, JCAHO-accredited, 331-bed full-service hospital located in Idaho Falls. The organization had been struggling with policy management, particularly with keeping policy binders current and effectively distributed to hospital employees. The policy committee meetings were costing the hospital more than $14,000 per year, in addition to the annual Joint Commission audits. The hospital was in need of a solution that could cut costs while increasing productivity and compliance.

Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) was struggling with their manual policy management system. The process was time-consuming, costly, and inefficient. The hospital was spending over $14,000 per year on policy committee meetings alone. Additionally, the Joint Commission's evolving view of policy and procedure management increased the need for a more efficient system. The commission now expects organizations to not only have policies in place but to use these policies to drive their practice. This new requirement made it more important than ever for EIRMC to have their policies easily accessible, well-organized, and not in conflict with one another, which was difficult to achieve with their manual process.

Chris Bliersbach, the hospital’s director of quality management, implemented NAVEX Global's PolicyTech policy management software at EIRMC. This software was chosen for its ability to automate and digitize their policy management processes, eliminate the costs of printing and minimize the time spent in costly meetings, and create an accessible hub where documents could be quickly organized, updated, and distributed to the EIRMC team. The software also had the ability to customize to EIRMC's own needs and current template, automate the review, approval, distribution, and archival flow of documents, and build quizzes right into the policies. The software was implemented to increase productivity and compliance, and to implement a common workflow.

Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
