eMix is a San Diego-based company that provides medical information exchange across North America between hospitals, healthcare institutions, physicians, and patients using the speed and ease of online access. This information includes medical scans, pictures, x-rays, and other sensitive medical documents. eMix opened for business in 2010 and has grown rapidly since then with a current customer base of approximately 450 organizations. eMix’s vendor-neutral, medical IT solution solves several challenges that imaging centers and hospitals routinely face. Traditionally these disparate institutions have had to exchange medical information regarding patients through the use of CDs which is a slow and time-consuming process. eMix, on the other hand, is an easy-to-use, cloud-based technology that digitally supplies both images and reports to patients, doctors, and other healthcare institutions.

eMix initially decided to build its own datacenter for the development and initial proof of concept for its cloud-based information exchange service. However, it quickly realized that operating its own datacenter would divert staff away from the business of providing its core software to clients. The company needed a solution that had massive scalability and availability due to the extremely large file sets it deals with. eMix also needed a cloud solution that was cost-effective and highly reliable. The company also had to ensure that the solution met all security and regulatory demands of the healthcare industry.

Thorough due diligence verified that iland could meet all of eMix’s security and operational requirements. eMix was already running a private cloud based on VMware technology, so for the virtual private cloud service, it required a provider with experience, knowledge, and expertise in maintaining the inherent regulatory and security requirements of the Healthcare market. The cloud solution provided by iland has helped eMix to reduce costs and increase efficiency by not having to maintain and operate its own datacenter.

Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
