This trend forced prepaid cellular operators and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to offer 'create-your-own' plans. As the customer base became more demanding, mobile operators needed to regularly innovate with their pricing plans to attract new customers and encourage loyalty among existing ones. The client wanted to offer an attractive pricing plan that would keep them ahead of the competition and avoid getting caught in the pricing conundrum.

Blueocean Market Intelligence proposed the development of a tool, the Competitive Pricing Comparator. This tool captures, refreshes, and compares the plan pricing/features of consumer and business wireless voice + data offerings from 26 prepaid operators in the US on a weekly basis. The tool features a database of the information captured, containing details such as rates for voice & data, tethering, international roaming and long distance calls, data speeds and throttle, etc. This acts as a backend to the user intuitive dashboard frontend, which features filters to compare competitive data. Blueocean Market Intelligence further documents the summary of all changes and creates a write-up outlining the underlying competitive strategies. The summary also touches upon promotional activities, campaigns and their effectiveness.
