Imaging Associates of North Mississippi is a company that provides radiology interpretation services to 11 hospitals across northeast Mississippi and one in central Tennessee. The company relies on high-speed transmission of imaging data to and from its central facility in Tupelo, Mississippi. The hospitals, clinics, and health care facilities that use the company’s services either cannot afford a full-time radiologist to interpret medical imaging, or use the service when they are short-staffed.

Imaging Associates of North Mississippi, a provider of radiology interpretation services, was facing challenges in transferring unique images across the WAN due to slow internet connections, network congestion, and intermittent network outages. These issues were causing delays in patient diagnoses and potential risks of HIPAA violations. The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals.
