关于客户
The National Blood Service (NBS) provides a life-saving service throughout England, supplying 2.4 million units of blood and blood products from 14 Blood Centers to 350 hospitals every year. The National Blood Authority works with NBS and has invested £10 million in national IT systems to ensure a highly effective and efficient blood collection and distribution service. The PULSE Core Blood Management System and Network in the UK is a critical component, processing more blood than any other system of its kind in the world. The health and performance of this system are of major concern to those responsible for its management.
挑战
The National Blood Service (NBS) needed to create a safe, secure, and cost-effective system to support its core operations. The primary challenge was to ensure the safety, security, management, and cost-effectiveness of the PULSE Core Blood Management System, which processes more blood than any other system of its kind in the world. The NBS faced an immediate demand from staff for existing heritage software applications to be run over the network, which could impact the performance of their core business. Additionally, the potential threat of users launching unauthorized applications received via email posed a significant risk, as harmful viruses could damage servers and cause major performance problems.
解决方案
To address these challenges, the NBS deployed the AppSense Application Manager across a new thin client installation with centralized management. This solution allowed the NBS to maintain tight control over the desktop and the type of application software running on their network. By adopting a Thin Client strategy combined with AppSense Application Manager, the NBS reduced the total cost of ownership of software, simplified license management, and substantially reduced interoperability issues. The burden of desktop support was greatly reduced, and software upgrades could be achieved centrally in a fraction of the time it would take in a traditional client-server environment. The latest investment in AppSense Application Manager saw the NBS increase the number of product licenses from 300 to 1300 users, further enhancing their ability to manage and secure their IT infrastructure effectively.
运营影响
  • Proactive system protection against unauthorized applications, ensuring the security and integrity of the PULSE Core Blood Management System.
  • Reduced cost and complexity of application licenses and maintenance, leading to significant cost savings for the NBS.
  • Simplified management of over 2,000 desktop devices through centralized control, reducing the burden of desktop support.
  • Enhanced ability to manage and secure IT infrastructure with the increase in AppSense Application Manager licenses from 300 to 1300 users.
  • Improved overall efficiency and effectiveness of the blood collection and distribution service through the deployment of a Thin Client strategy.
数量效益
  • Increased the number of AppSense Application Manager licenses from 300 to 1300 users.
  • Investment of £10 million in national IT systems to support the NBS operations.
