Water Treatment Energy Management
Water Treatment Energy Management
Water pumping, treatment and conveyance are among the largest energy and cost outlays for many local and regional municipalities. Electricity time-of-use rates and peak pricing tariffs are driving those costs even higher. This case study describes how Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA) implemented a process data monitoring and control solution in order to analyze and optimize energy use, reduce deployment costs and save operational expenses.
Smart Water Filtration Systems
Smart Water Filtration Systems
Before working with Ayla Networks, Ozner was already using cloud connectivity to identify and solve water-filtration system malfunctions as well as to monitor filter cartridges for replacements. But, in June 2015, Ozner executives talked with Ayla about how the company might further improve its water systems with IoT technology. They liked what they heard from Ayla, but the executives needed to be sure that Ayla’s Agile IoT Platform provided the security and reliability Ozner required.
IIC - Water Management Testbed
IIC - Water Management Testbed
The growing water shortage is regarded as the most crucial global challenge, affecting both developing and developed nations at present. Large amount of water is lost in between the point of production and receipt by end users due to leaky pipes and outdated infrastructure. This results in the loss of millions of dollars and huge wastage of such a key resource. GOAL A substantial opportunity exists to reduce the amount of water lost. As water can be lost at multiple points over a wide geographical area, Internet of Things (IoT) technology is particularly well suited to address this problem. The Smart Water Management Testbed will implement a network of real-time sensors (leakage, moisture, and water -flow detection). These will be deployed at high-risk locations across the testbed water infrastructure to reduce the amount of water being ‘lost’ by: • Rapid detection of leaks • Preemptive detection of potential leaks • Precision irrigation of watered areas

Water Utility Management
Water Utility Management
Water utility management systems monitor and collect data on the infrastructure used to store and deliver water to improve the efficiency of water delivery to customers. Aging infrastructure means that the vast majority of the reticulation network that delivers water to customers have been invisible to the utility company. By placing IoT sensors on water utility infrastructure, the utility operator can collect data on the water flowing between the different points to detect leakages, shortages, quality levels, and consumption levels. Sensors can also assess the condition of infrastructure to enable preventative and Predictive Maintenance.
Intelligent Urban Water Supply Management
Intelligent Urban Water Supply Management
Intelligent Urban Water Supply Management uses IoT gateways to securely connect the water supply asset (e.g. pressurizing pumps) to the cloud service platform where advanced analytics are applied to the operational data communicated from the assets. The operational insight obtained from the analytics are used to drive the water supply domain applications to monitor and provide advanced maintenance capability, monitor water quality, detect water leakages, reduce energy consumption of pressurizing pumps and ensure equitable water distributions to the points of consumption during water peak usage hours and water supply shortages.
