About The Customer
Zip Co Limited is a financial technology company headquartered in Sydney, Australia. The company is focused on offering payment solutions for both everyday spending and life’s bigger buys. With over 5,300,000 customers, their tools are available both online and in-store at over 24,500 retailers. Zip is all about taking a fresh, innovative approach to finance, which has consistently led to considerable growth. As the company has diversified and expanded, their security needs evolved. It wasn’t long before the team was on the hunt for a comprehensive security platform. With the goal to consolidate their security toolset, secure their data and improve their end-user experience, Zip’s IT leaders selected Netskope for the job.
The Challenge
Zip Co Limited, a rapidly growing global fintech company, was facing challenges with its security management. The company was operating disparate security tools that were unable to scale to meet Zip’s global expansion. The overall technology environment was siloed, with Zip comprised of five different companies with varying infrastructure. Internal applications were exposed to the internet, a necessity to ensure global access but with increased risk. Previous solutions routed all traffic through the US, diminishing the end-user experience. Securing new AWS and Azure instances, many added during company acquisitions, was a time-consuming process.
The Solution
The Netskope engineering team worked closely with the customer to tailor a robust solution set that would allow them to address all of their use cases while reducing the number of security tools needed to achieve efficient cloud security posture management. The new strategy included inline CASB with built-in threat and data loss prevention, Next Gen SWG, Public Cloud Security, and Private Access. Zip selected Netskope CASB and Next Gen SWG to enforce security and threat policies for their global subsidiaries. This replaced the disparate security tools with centralized policy management for all employees, all devices and all web traffic in the Netskope platform. Zip implemented Netskope Private Access (NPA) to secure all their applications - both internal and those from cloud providers. This solution simplified and standardized the onboarding of new acquisitions and centralized their access controls. The NewEdge network enabled Zip to deploy security at the edge. They can enforce security policies across their global companies and subsidiaries while improving network performance. Zip uses Netskope Public Cloud Security to identify and monitor their multiple AWS and Azure instances.
Operational Impact
  • Zip was able to easily onboard new acquisitions by loading them into their active directory and deploying Netskope publishers to their environments.
  • Zip now runs their on-premises applications as SaaS apps available only through Netskope Private Access, reducing risk while simplifying access for employees.
  • Zip was able to fully integrate Netskope Public Cloud Security with their Amazon and Azure environments. Since they have multiple environments for both, keeping track was often a complicated endeavor.
  • Netskope enabled Zip to replace disparate security tools with one best of breed platform. This provided more comprehensive enforcement with standardized policies applied across all users, apps, and devices.
