About The Customer
Legendary Entertainment is a large entertainment studio based in California. The company is behind such hits as Godzilla vs. Kong, Enola Holmes, The Hangover, and Interstellar, among many others. The company's VP of Global Security and Corporate Operations, Dan Meacham, has over 25 years of experience in cybersecurity and has worked in various industries. He was hired by Legendary in 2014, right after the infamous Sony hack, with the aim of bolstering the company's security.
The Challenge
Legendary Entertainment was facing issues with their legacy email provider and were not satisfied with the customer support from Microsoft ATP. They were looking for a solution that was API-based and worked with Legendary as a partner. They had previously tried migrating to a big email security company but found the same issues of a shared platform. They also had issues with the user experience and the company's lack of response to their concerns. They needed a solution that was cloud-first, connected via API, and had a great relationship between vendor and customer.
The Solution
Legendary Entertainment found their solution in Avanan, a cloud email security platform. Avanan uses APIs to block phishing, malware, and data leakage in the line of communications traffic. This means Avanan catches threats missed by Microsoft while adding a transparent layer of security for the entire suite that also protects other collaboration tools like Slack. Avanan and Legendary have a dedicated Slack channel for communication and collaboration. Avanan's team works to implement any feature suggestions from Legendary, creating a strong partnership between the two companies.

In-vehicle communications and entertainment system hosts high-value or sensitive applications. API libraries facilitate communication and sharing of vehicle data. These API libraries are vulnerable to reverse engineering and tampering attacks and may even result in loss of passenger safety. Attackers can inject malware that may be able to migrate to other in-car networks such as the controller-area-network (CAN) bus which links to the vehicle’s critical systems. Software provided for dealers to interface with cars through the OBD2 port is vulnerable to reverse engineering and tampering attacks. Hackers may be able to abuse these tools to inject malicious code into the ECUs and CAN bus. Attackers can lift the cryptographic keys used, and use that to build their own rogue apps/software. Their cloned version of the original app/software may have altered functionality, and may intend to gain access to other in-car networks.
