About The Customer
Sligro Food Group Nederland B.V. is a Holland-based food and beverage retailer and service company. The company has been a leader in the Dutch market for 76 years, employing 10,000 staff members and owning 130 full-service supermarkets for consumers. Sligro also serves bars, restaurants, leisure facilities, volume users, caterers, fuel retailers, and other businesses through 45 large cash-and-carry stores and nine delivery centers. In 2010, the company's sales totaled €2,286 million ($2,993 million USD), with a net profit of €70 million ($92 million USD). All customers must use a loyalty card to make a purchase, allowing Sligro to collect a tremendous amount of data regarding sales and purchase histories.
The Challenge
Sligro Food Group, a leading food and beverage retailer in the Dutch market, was struggling to leverage the vast amount of data it collected from its homegrown ERP system. The company's reporting strategy was fragmented, with over 700 Brio reports providing inconsistent and disjointed information. The company was operating largely on gut feeling, unable to extract valuable insights from the data at its fingertips. Sligro needed a tool to streamline and enhance its reporting strategy, providing improved insight into store sales and other aspects of the company’s operations, including finance, logistics, and marketing.
The Solution
After evaluating several business intelligence (BI) tools, Sligro chose the WebFOCUS BI platform from Information Builders. WebFOCUS was selected for its ability to work well with AS/400, the platform on which the company’s ERP systems run, as well as its quality, broad feature set, flexibility, and reasonable price. The first application built with WebFOCUS was the Management Information 2.0 portal, which unified reporting activities and provided a centralized place through which reports could be run and viewed. WebFOCUS is currently replacing more than 700 existing Brio reports, providing Sligro with improved insight into store sales. In the near future, WebFOCUS will support other aspects of the company’s operations, including finance, logistics, and marketing.
Operational Impact
  • A centralized reporting strategy has improved information accessibility and consistency.
  • WebFOCUS is redefining the way Sligro uses its data to get answers to its most important questions.
  • The security capabilities inherent in WebFOCUS will help to ensure that staff at each store can retrieve only the data they are authorized to see.
Quantitative Benefit
  • WebFOCUS is replacing more than 700 existing Brio reports with just 100 WebFOCUS ones.
